Live and Work

in Inspirational stories

Father was a hardworking man who delivered bread as a living to support his wife and three children. He spent all his evenings after work attending classes, hoping to improve himself so that he could one day find a better paying job. Except for Sundays, Father hardly ate a meal together with his family. He worked and studied very hard because he wanted to provide his family with the best money could buy.

Whenever the family complained that he was not spending enough time with them, he reasoned that he was doing all this for them. But he often yearned to spend more time with his family.

The day came when the examination results were announced. To his joy, Father passed, and with distinctions too! Soon after, he was offered a good job as a senior supervisor which paid handsomely.

Like a dream come true, Father could now afford to provide his family with life’s little luxuries like nice clothing, fine food and vacation abroad.

However, the family still did not get to see father for most of the week. He continued to work very hard, hoping to be promoted to the position of manager. In fact, to make himself a worthily candidate for the promotion, he enrolled for another course in the open university.

Again, whenever the family complained that he was not spending enough time with them, he reasoned that he was doing all this for them. But he often yearned to spend more time with his family.

Father’s hard work paid off and he was promoted. Jubilantly, he decided to hire a maid to relieve his wife from her domestic tasks. He also felt that their three-room flat was no longer big enough, it would be nice for his family to be able to enjoy the facilities and comfort of a condominium. Having experienced the rewards of his hard work many times before, Father resolved to further his studies and work at being promoted again. The family still did not get to see much of him. In fact, sometimes Father had to work on Sundays entertaining clients. Again, whenever the family complained that he was not spending enough time with them, he reasoned that he was doing all this for them. But he often yearned to spend more time with his family.

As expected, Father’s hard work paid off again and he bought a beautiful condominium overlooking the coast of Singapore. On the first Sunday evening at their new home, Father declared to his family that he decided not to take anymore courses or pursue any more promotions. From then on he was going to devote more time to his family.

Father did not wake up the next day.

4. Ndoumah Victor — April 2, 2009 at 8:54 am

- We should be contented with the little we have.

- We should try and spend much time with our families and our love ones. For the company in which we work can replace us in a couple of days. But our love ones will miss us forever.

- One, two, or three complains, should make us reason good a little.

Do what you can with what you have and where you are. God knows how much to give, so don’t try to spend all time earning money instead experience some love with family, friends which is very essential for your long term happiness.

14. Kattu-chambu — January 26, 2010 at 3:38 am

Something we achieve, some thing we lose; the more we achieve, more things we lose. solution is to live for means; find happiness in small things….

16. Santhosh — February 6, 2010 at 2:17 am

Be happy with what we are, now a days earning is also very much important in human life, but in earning don’t forget the life, give importance to the human values, spending time with family with little earning is better than not spending much time with family with much earning.

17. Rosie — February 9, 2010 at 12:40 am

:( reminds me of my father and fiancee… We dont have any children but i can see that in him so i always try to remind from time to time that i rather be poor if thats what it takes to have spend more time with his family.

I think differently. He thought he has achieved and all his work is accomplished that is why he died. If he was planning to give more comfort for his family he might be alive to work hard to fetch them all.

25. Becky — April 27, 2010 at 11:46 am

There could be 2 morals here to learn:

First: Keep working, or else you will die.

Second: Work and family must have a balance for a happy life.

Desires can be unlimited. One has to decide the level of basic necessities, what level of comfort and luxury one wants for himself and his family. On being a father his duty is also to creat his children into good citizens which can be achieved by living with his family.

50. Niro — December 1, 2010 at 4:11 am

We won’t know what will happen tomorrow. When we are not satisfied with what we have and go for more, life will become a burden and we start to suffer more. On the other hand if we were satisfied with what we have we wouldn’t lose what we already have in the first place. A rich man is a satisfied man and a poor man is someone who thinks that he does not have enough. It’s not the matter of money that labels us rich and poor.

51. Rakesh Bhawtankar — December 4, 2010 at 6:54 am

Very Good. This is reality of today’s scenario. We have to think seriously. ”WE ARE LEAVING LIFE FOR WORKING OR WORKING FOR LIFE LIVING”?

56. Holly — January 19, 2011 at 3:11 pm

we should be contented on what god give to us….dont ask too much…….

63. shan — February 22, 2011 at 1:07 am

Such a nice story, but we have to give importance to the both. A man should not only think of his profession, at the same time he has to give importance to his family. bcoz if he loses his job he can get something better than that, but if he loss his family he cant……………………..!!!@

66. jagin — February 28, 2011 at 12:32 am

nice story……….what an inspiring one….

67. Aditi — February 28, 2011 at 4:29 am

Why poor father has been blamed always? It’s not his wish to stay away from the family. Its the responsibility for his family that makes him harsh. lt’s not the fault of the father but the company gives them loads and loads of work to finish before leaving the office… poor for his bread and butter he has to obey. So don’t blame father instead help him, love him, show him by your good deeds that you, family will return his your hard work in this form.

68. Boran — March 11, 2011 at 5:06 am

We all should balance to everything done for better life in this world.

69. Boivet Figueroa — March 16, 2011 at 7:51 am

The story never mentioned God. Yes, the Father probably did everything he could for his family but without having thoughts for God… Herein where he lost…. We can work hard and make money, BUT when those things get the better of us, then we may be in dire poverty in our soul.

Don’t let riches – or the pursuit of riches- derail our relationship with our family and God…

70. Lyn — March 23, 2011 at 5:22 pm

i think his learning from series of education is not enough for him to be a manager. because to be a manager you must know how to manage your work and family. you cannot perform well in your job if you could not understand the setting priorities.

78. MOHIT — April 25, 2011 at 10:52 am

86. aditi — May 18, 2011 at 9:51 am

life is too short…….you need to set your priorities. money and comfort is not everything which a family needs from you. what they really need is only you. your love, your time. because a family is incomplete even in the absence of 1 member. so we need to understand this and need to maintain a balance in your life.

Thanx for providing such a fantastic story this look simple but work strongly

109. Neha — August 6, 2011 at 9:31 am

In my whole life, this is the first time I read this type of stories. After reading, I came to know the realities of life. I want to say that in our life, we have to give priority, first to all the things which are superior to us. Yes, it is true that “money brings honey”.. but it doesn’t mean that for this money you get your honey and lovely live… so be balanced for everything related to your life…

111. Shizuka Tamiko — August 26, 2011 at 9:25 am

It’s so “SAD” :’(

112. Enrique Belli — August 31, 2011 at 4:43 pm

I don’t like it. It is so sad when he finaly think his family life is good and wants to start to be with them he dies is no firking fair….. :I I know is true he was giving their material happines a bit more important than their emotional one his reasone was not a selfish one so it was a bad thing but for a good reasone

113. Jilma Sequeira — August 31, 2011 at 4:43 pm

I don’t think having ambitions is bad but you need to see what is most important and if that unable you for spends time with your love ones you shoulds ask yourself if that really worth or not

114. Jeithan Espinoza — August 31, 2011 at 4:44 pm

Sometimes… you have to improve as a person but not forgetting about the important things like your family!, Is time for everything, but you have to decide the way to spend it!, is your choice! you have to remember that the day you die, you will not have any of your stuff, and make strong relationships with your family will be forever because is like a chain. and if your chain is about love, will be always love in your family.

115. Eloisa — August 31, 2011 at 4:45 pm

It is not bad to have ambition in life.. in fact the goals we set are what motivate us but we must realize that life is only one and if we spend all time trying to reach that goal and only dedicating our 100% time to it.. when will we enjoy life???

116. Massiel — August 31, 2011 at 4:49 pm

The history shows you that you have to enjoy life, and live with the things that you have. Also, you have to work and study I understand, but you have to enjoy your family, friends, because as the history says you dont know what is going to pass tomorrow. The history is too sad, but give you a great message.

117. Rajiv.singh — September 2, 2011 at 12:09 pm

A very drastic end to the story ,,,, but i liked it

118. Masih — September 4, 2011 at 2:29 pm

This story gives the message that life is a full of stern work. Death may come anytime but we should do something in our life.

119. Noma — September 5, 2011 at 8:27 am

I always think what you get is what you deserve. The man in the story chased the goods that he thought would improved his family’s situation. As we know these deed just not enough, not good enough. What a family real needs man to do is just to provide the family with the sence of home. That’s all. It’s so sad he didn’t realize.

120. Patrick — September 7, 2011 at 11:39 pm

More on time management and satisfaction for a person.
We only have 2 hands and no one know god when going to call us back. Spend time wisely with the love one and also the important one. Share the times among and we cannot expect to have everything and chase for more in our live else something you will going to loss. 2 hands can takes many difference things and also only 1 thing that you have the right to choice.
Your life today is what you have done from the past. You life tomorrow is what you going to do today.

121. SHEDZ ADAM — September 8, 2011 at 7:25 am

We should find time for everything, praying, working, socializing, meeting with parents and spending time with kids. Some people stay far from their parents and get so busy to even give a phone call. Whatever we are today is the fruit of our parents.

130. Dhirendra Singh — October 5, 2011 at 5:51 am

That was a very shoked story and real. Our whole life spent in earn money and then lost of our real life.

131. Mhy — October 12, 2011 at 11:05 pm

a very sad story, :(, everything we desire here on earth are just temporary, don’t expect too much, be contented of what you have, what matters most is you have God, you and your family are in good health and live happily.

132. STUTI .D. NAIK — October 15, 2011 at 4:13 am

We should spend time with our family. Our family is more important than work.

133. Santosh — October 15, 2011 at 4:43 am

After reading the whole story, I can only make about that we should keep a balance between our work and family….Both are important aspect of life…..

134. Karthik.M — October 21, 2011 at 9:42 am

A really good message ….

135. Bhaskar — October 22, 2011 at 8:36 am

This story tells that hard work is much importance but life is short, with hard work we should spend little time with our family who really love us and care about us

136. ing-ing — October 27, 2011 at 2:03 am

Money sometimes means nothing to us

137. Marlon Taguinod — November 7, 2011 at 10:36 pm

Life is like a candle once it lighted it start getting shorter and shorter, the yesterday that past will lost forever we cannot bring back the past to correct our mistake, time is important and it is more greater and more important than gold because time is life. every count of a second of our time is a second of time loosed to our life forever. TIME is far greater than anything in this world that we posses. so cherish and use your time wisely :) … live the best of today as if you don’t live tomorrow.

138. Milind — November 11, 2011 at 7:17 am

All my friends are right, I spend too little time with family….

139. Shubham — November 12, 2011 at 12:23 am

This is called life 4 the family’s sacrifice. The man was in the form of ANGEL 2 his family. He knew that one day he has to die, but that dying must not suffer to his family in future. HAT’S OFF 2 U FATHER!!

140. MUBASHIR — November 29, 2011 at 6:01 am

If he didn’t decide to stop his journey of study and work (it was his energy to live), he may wake up next day! sure!

141. Dimple — December 11, 2011 at 5:29 am

Oh it’s too sad and the story has a good moral too…

142. Abdur Rehman — December 11, 2011 at 9:05 am

Excellence story. We should be happy in some and give more time to our family…………………!!!

143. Somayajulu — December 12, 2011 at 5:04 am

This is good and heart touching story. In our life, life and work balance should be there. If we spend some time with our family, it will give energy and happiness through out the day. Then we can achieve any thing with their support. We have to enjoy every moment in our life. Only work does not make sense. Money will not resolve all the problems.

144. Angshuman — December 20, 2011 at 4:16 am

This is really a good story. Human being should be happy with thier family with the money they earn but with higher ambition.

145. Zeina — January 3, 2012 at 12:44 pm

If he did not do so, the whole family would have died, that’s the world in which we live !

146. Ahmed — January 5, 2012 at 3:45 pm

Good one

147. Stephanie — January 9, 2012 at 4:52 pm

I didn’t see the last line till just now :/ It’s sad because it’s true for so many people- they work themselves to death for their families, but their families never see them :(

148. Amr Shando — January 19, 2012 at 8:04 pm

It’s very sad. We live only one life, so we should spend every second with the people who we love.

149. Student — January 24, 2012 at 10:33 am

We must have balance in our life in each and every aspect. Without being alrounder, only money can’t give us long term happiness.

150. Modesta — January 31, 2012 at 7:56 am

I love this story, it inspires me. Thanks. Please try to post more…

151. Leighmkie — February 3, 2012 at 9:46 pm

Such a heartbreaker… tearjerker story…lesson learned! *cries*

152. Shan — February 6, 2012 at 6:16 pm

I understand the point of the father, this is similar to the story in the bible about the rich man then God took his life the next day.

153. Funmi — February 14, 2012 at 2:45 pm

:( all is vanity if only he knew the value he was on his family

154. Sandeep — February 16, 2012 at 9:42 am

That was a very shocked story and real. Our whole life spent in earn money and then lost of our real life.

155. Shailaja — February 21, 2012 at 7:22 am

The story really touched my heart, there is a good message in the story, that each and every movement in life is valuable.

156. Exodus — February 26, 2012 at 10:42 pm

Indeed heart breaking! Every moment is valuable and you should cherish it with the people who matters to you…. I grew up with my grandma until the time we’ve got separated. I haven’t seen her for over three years until such time that she died, that’s the saddest part of my life and most regretful as well… I just wished I could have hugged her before she went away…. you could just imagine how hard that is for me…

157. Ara — March 7, 2012 at 7:59 pm

Everyday is a day to live, spend time wisely…

158. Ammu — March 10, 2012 at 6:25 am

All fathers have to read this story, who is not spending the time with family ……. I miss u dad

159. Liza Lopez — March 23, 2012 at 12:57 am

Lesson learned: live a well-balanced life.

160. Princy — March 26, 2012 at 6:52 am

Time and tide wait for none. Before the father realized it was too late. We should always remember that time is unpredictable.

161. Baliram Shinde — April 4, 2012 at 6:58 am

Money is not everything, but without money you can’t do anything, father was right in his place, who have done all his responsibilities. He didn’t spend time with his family doesn’t matter but as per my knowledge he was a successful father. No one is perfect in his life, something is omitting everyone in his life by mistake, no one is prefect. We have learned lot of things from this story, everyone should maintain a balance between money and family.

162. Ahn1405 — April 9, 2012 at 12:51 am

It was a spectacular story and I benefited that fine tune to stay with your family before you died.

163. Easter2k12 — April 15, 2012 at 1:28 pm

Quite interesting, but when you get to the end, it’s soo sad :(

164. Dinesh — April 18, 2012 at 12:45 am

Nice story… the ending was sad!

165. Sandy — April 18, 2012 at 8:32 am

We should always remember one thing that we should spend life’s beautiful time with our family, relatives, friends, etc… who knows what would happen tomorrow. We should not wait for good time in spite we should always think that all the time are good.. “HAPPINESS IS NOT A DESTINATION, IT’S A METHOD OF LIFE.. BE HAPPY LIFE….”

166. Venni — April 22, 2012 at 11:31 am

Wow… if only he had another chance to go back and fix his mistakes.. It’s sad that his family also has to suffer from his mistakes.

167. Shantilata Sahoo — May 2, 2012 at 5:42 am

Good message for all :)

168. Ankit — May 2, 2012 at 9:51 am

It’s a very, very nice story….. we should study now and enjoy afterwards…………..

169. Anshul — May 6, 2012 at 8:22 am

It’s a lovely story and good massage !!! but I don’t think having ambitions is bad but you need to see what is most important and if that unable you for spend time with your loved ones you should ask urself if that is really worth or not…!!

170. Jose — May 8, 2012 at 10:56 pm

171. Satya — May 18, 2012 at 6:17 am

172. Sunil Kumar — May 23, 2012 at 1:44 am

Dear Readers,

I have gone through the story and all comments which given by all readers.. Most people not touching the moral of the story…. Maybe I am wrong..

As I come to know the Moral of story is that: It’s true that wish never end, while completing our wishes one by one we must not forget that our loved one and ours family, there wish also opon you, you must give them time for getting ther desire.

Meaning of life is earning more and more, Also enjoying it… ALL THE BEST

173. pralaya — May 24, 2012 at 11:47 pm

175. Haze — May 25, 2012 at 9:50 am

We should know our priorities in life and maintain a balance at everything….. We should make the most of everything because nobody knows what will happen in the next few minutes.

176. Kisha — May 26, 2012 at 1:20 pm

Sad story but meaningful to everyone…

177. Anonymous — May 26, 2012 at 1:38 pm

I hope it never happens to anyone, don’t care about tomorrow just live today. Always live like you are marked for delete today.

178. Kajol — June 7, 2012 at 5:54 am

I think that it is very important to give time to family and enjoy with them, also never think for the another day of life just live today.

179. Sonal jain — June 9, 2012 at 12:22 pm

I think in todays era we can’t say that money doen’t matter. It’t matter a lot but we can’t ignore our family for money. After all whatever we do is for family so if we don’t give time to our family then what’s the mean of all the effort we are doing. Money is not enough for them they also require love of there parents.

180. Deepak — June 13, 2012 at 1:46 pm

Too good

181. Sufia Khan — June 14, 2012 at 1:05 am

Inspiring story, leaves a great moral behind. Always try to balance your life and give equal importance to every1.

So sad!!! He yearned time to spend with family however when he find the time he was no more.

182. Olufemi Olujimi — June 14, 2012 at 3:27 am

I can’t get it. Nobody knew or decided when and where to be born. Neither does anybody knows when to be dead. One important thing to know is that how well or bad one lives on earth determines where he/she will be after leaving planet earth. I would try and live a good life of great legacy while on earth even though I later find that there is no heaven. But my good works will be speaking volumes for my justification.

183. Mitts — June 16, 2012 at 12:52 pm

What a crap story.. We should be amitious and try to get the best for our loved ones. Finally when the man gets satisfied with his professional life, he dies. This is not giving a good message to the reader, in fact these types of stories are misleading the people who want to work hard for their families.

184. Dev — June 17, 2012 at 6:09 am

Giving more money to your loved ones does not mean that you are giving best. Emotions are more valuable than money. Love is also an emotion, it can’t be compared with money at all.

Give your loved ones emotional support, tell her how u love her, tell her that hw important she is for u. Spend quality time with her rather than sending her expensive gifts.

185. Ram — June 21, 2012 at 12:29 am

Try to enjoy every movement, and do the hard work.

186. Ginny — June 26, 2012 at 2:08 pm

Look, death is truth, everyone has to face it one day. The father was a great father for his family, he gave comforts to his family during his live & forever. He was a conquerer, what he wanted he just grabbed it not only just words.. he was a man. I salute him from my heart..

187. Anna — July 2, 2012 at 5:24 am

It’s true that time is precious so, spend it wisely.

188. Vijai — July 3, 2012 at 11:53 pm

Work hard. Live happy.

191. Madhu — July 19, 2012 at 7:13 am

I learn one thing in the story, that “we have to work until death invites us”.. Any way, good story with a small logic.

192. Bhavini — July 20, 2012 at 2:39 am

Very sad end

193. Sridevi — July 24, 2012 at 8:09 am

It’s the true fact of todays life style.

194. Lloyd — July 28, 2012 at 2:55 am

Very, very sad.

195. Mishti — July 28, 2012 at 7:07 am

I think that mean fault of father, he has to spend time with his family because family is more important than money… So may be it’s all fact.

196. ISMAIL — July 31, 2012 at 2:10 am

FAMILY first and remain rest.

197. Ankur Tiwari Neon — August 1, 2012 at 12:05 am
