Abraham Lincoln never quits.
Born into poverty, Lincoln was faced with defeat throughout his life. He lost eight elections, twice failed in business and suffered a nervous breakdown.
He could have quit many times – but he didn’t and because he didn’t quit, he became one of the greatest presidents in the United States history.
Here is a sketch of Lincoln’s road to the White House:
- 1816 His family was forced out of their home. He had to work to support them.
- 1818 His mother died.
- 1831 Failed in business.
- 1832 Ran for state legislature – lost.
- 1832 Also lost his job – wanted to go to law school but couldn’t get in.
- 1833 Borrowed some money from a friend to begin a business and by the end of the year he was bankrupt. He spent the next 17 years of his life paying off this debt.
- 1834 Ran for state legislature again – won.
- 1835 Was engaged to be married, sweetheart died and his heart was broken.
- 1836 Had a total nervous breakdown and was in bed for six months.
- 1838 Sought to become speaker of the state legislature – defeated.
- 1840 Sought to become elector – defeated.
- 1843 Ran for Congress – lost.
- 1846 Ran for Congress again – this time he won – went to Washington and did a good job.
- 1848 Ran for re-election to Congress – lost.
- 1849 Sought the job of land officer in his home state – rejected.
- 1854 Ran for Senate of the United States – lost.
- 1856 Sought the Vice-Presidential nomination at his party’s national convention – get less than 100 votes.
- 1858 Ran for U.S. Senate again – again he lost.
- 1860 Elected president of the United States.

Yes we never have to quit with anything. We have to try n try until we succeed.
What a great man he was! The only secret behind his success is ‘determination’, ‘confidence in himself’ and dedication.. There are actually very few men in life like him who inspite of failing countless times in life never quits till the end…. Hats off to him……
Abraham Lincoln was a man of perseverance never quiting destipe the many losses he had. this teaches us a lesson that no matter the challenges we are to face, somthing good is behind the test. ‘We try, we Fail, We try, we Fail, We try, we Fail, but the day that we stop trying is the day that we will fail. through GOD all things are possible.
Even if we don’t have any options like Lincoln we must try to give 100% to our present job inspite of giving up… All the best.
This teaches us to do the best evry time …..and face the extremes with smile …positive attitude and consistence hard work can do wonders.
Self belief is the most important aspect of human life
If we have to succeed in our goals and ambitions, we must never give up till our last breathe, that is what to be learnt from this Great man. Sir Abraham Lincoln
Wow! Very inspiring! I was ashamed when I tried hard to find a job but I was rejected because so. else was better or luckier than me. I have never drimed to become a president but know I’ll hope to become the one I deserve.
He was the man full of LIFE. Taking everything in his stride, come good-come evil. Living for what he wanted to be.
Success is his who strives for it.

Yes Abraham Lincoln was the real hero.
A winner never quit, and aquiter never win.
The tale tells us that keep in mind that “THE GAME IS NOT OVER AS I’VE NOT WON YET…”
Yes yes sometimes we are failure in life or love or work. It is really hard to accept, I also failed in life and love and I think of negative things. But today I opened Google and found this inspirational story. Thanks to Sir Lincoln. This is changing me.
God sent Lincoln on mother earth in the garb of man, actually he was god himself, he had no schooling yet his speaches reflect he was the best teacher he was the best lawyer and he was the best president if I think of one man the greatest on earth I Can safely name Lincoln after God. He converted each adversity into an opportunity and stood tall before than all, he lived and died so that the nation may live he took an oath to preserve the nation and he kept united states united, he is no longer American he belongs to all of us I cannot believe that such a man in flesh and blood lived on mother earth god bless Lincoln.
Such an important lesson and gave us the way to move forever and to never quit…..so cute… :}
Good thing for motivation ……………………..
“Do not follow others, what they do , follow your self what you want to do”
We need to follow him.
Never ever quits
Thanks for this story because you just saved a life through your story. Am motivated, inspired, moved, torched and determined. Thanks again.
Yes…never quits. Because if you quit you will never win… thanks for sharing…
Ofcourse he faced many defeats and ultimately got the worlds number one position…but many stories are not coming to limelight, they tried more than Lincoln and died without getting anything…
He must be over qualified for the positions that he intent to have that’s why he lost…and presidency was really for him. What’ important was he never stopped. I admire his determination.
The reason he lost so many elections was because he was adamant at banning slavery, however white americans (the only people who could vote in America at that time, blacks were not allowed) were against this ideology.
But finally after a civil war which threatened the very existence of America, Lincoln was able to get rid of slavery once and for all.
Moral of the story– if you don’t let the world change your principles, you can change the world.
Why do u worry? Please leave the result to god, he will take care of us. Nothing is in our hands.
Do you like worrying? Do you like to be always happy? Then stop worrying which you don’t like. THere is a proverb that says “even the word impossible says I’m possible.” If it is so, it has to be.
Just awesome..we all must show such spirit.
He’s my boy.
It is easy to say NEVER QUIT but it’s hard to do.
This is so inspiring, in fact have learnt a lesson that quitters never win.
