My mom only had one eye   224 comments

Posted at 8:40 pm in Parent_family

My mom only had one eye. I hated her… She was such an embarrassment. She cooked for students and teachers to support the family.

There was this one day during elementary school where my mom came to say hello to me. I was so embarrassed.

How could she do this to me? I ignored her, threw her a hateful look and ran out. The next day at school one of my classmates said, ‘EEEE, your mom only has one eye!’

I wanted to bury myself. I also wanted my mom to just disappear. I confronted her that day and said, ‘ If you’re only gonna make me a laughing stock, why don’t you just die?’

My mom did not respond… I didn’t even stop to think for a second about what I had said, because I was full of anger. I was oblivious to her feelings.

I wanted out of that house, and have nothing to do with her. So I studied real hard, got a chance to go abroad to study.

Then, I got married. I bought a house of my own. I had kids of my own. I was happy with my life, my kids and the comforts. Then one day, my Mother came to visit me. She hadn’t seen me in years and she didn’t even meet her grandchildren.

When she stood by the door, my children laughed at her, and I yelled at her for coming over uninvited. I screamed at her, ‘How dare you come to my house and scare my children!’ GET OUT OF HERE! NOW!!!’

And to this, my mother quietly answered, ‘Oh, I’m so sorry. I may have gotten the wrong address,’ and she disappeared out of sight.

One day, a letter regarding a school reunion came to my house. So I lied to my wife that I was going on a business trip. After the reunion, I went to the old shack just out of curiosity.

My neighbors said that she died. I did not shed a single tear. They handed me a letter that she had wanted me to have.

‘My dearest son,

I think of you all the time. I’m sorry that I came to your house and scared your children.

I was so glad when I heard you were coming for the reunion. But I may not be able to even get out of bed to see you. I’m sorry that I was a constant embarrassment to you when you were growing up.

You see……..when you were very little, you got into an accident, and lost your eye. As a mother, I couldn’t stand watching you having to grow up with one eye. So I gave you mine.

I was so proud of my son who was seeing a whole new world for me, in my place, with that eye.

With all my love to you,

Your mother.’

  2. Raj -- 26 Feb 09 at 11:03 am

I think such bastards don’t deserve such an unconditional, utter love from anyone…………. I pray to god that every child respects his/her parents and would take care of them when they are old.

  3. agatha lestari -- 26 Feb 09 at 11:35 pm

    That was sad story.
If God let me to see my mom, I will love her with all of my heart. But, my mom passed away when I was 3 months 3 days. I just send my prayer for her in my each pray.
Keep it up…I got your blog from my lecturer. It’s very helpful.

Very touching. We as children do not realize how much we take our parents for granted. We expect a lot from them and many a time we don’t even bother to think of or thank them.

  5. Lou -- 28 Mar 09 at 12:33 am

This story is very sad but it spreads a very wide message.
Till now I have never respected my parents, I have not thanked for what ever they have done to me.
After reading this I realized what parents are and what their love is.
Never I hurt my parents, never I scold my parents, never I complain about my parents….
    I REALLY LOVE U MOM
    I TRULY LOVE U DAD…….
NEVER I REPEAT ALL THIS AGAIN..
I KNOW THERE IS NO SORRY FOR MY DEEDS,BUT STILL I PRAY U TO FORGIVE ME….

Wow, I’m so touched with that story ….

  13. Capt. lacruser -- 22 Sep 09 at 5:55 am

This story brought me into tears. I thought a man like me can not easily affected by stories like this but it turned out in a different way.

A very sad story which reflect to all sons and daughters of life. While our parents, our relatives or the people we have known as our family are still with us, we must love them and care for them as much as we can. Great things are appreciated when it is over and difinitely if it will disappear before our eyes.

Ascertain this story to others. Let us make the world a better place!

  14. priyanka -- 23 Sep 09 at 5:58 am

very good story….. keep it up!!

  15. Rose -- 28 Sep 09 at 9:44 am

This story is very touching. I visited this website just for finding story for the English Story Telling competition. But, I found this wonderful and touching story. I will tell this story in front of 230 pupils and teachers. I hope they’ll be touched. The moral values of this story is all mothers loved their child very much and would sacrifice everything for their child. We must also respect our parents no matter how they look like.

  16. kasthuri -- 4 Oct 09 at 12:06 pm

She was so good to him and all he ever did was yell at her at what an embarrassment she was to him. I say he is a douche and he can get his own f**king eye if he wants one that badly.

  34. pramukh -- 6 Feb 10 at 3:29 pm

It was a lesson well learned for the boy. May it be a parent, or even someone/something you love; appreciate them/it whenever you have the chance to. Sacrificing something for someone is hard to do…even though if it is something like giving up your TV time so that your smaller brother can watch his show. But I can guarantee it that no one in your life will ever make much sacrificies for you as your parents have done for you. It is extremely important to understand your parents and give love back them as long as you can…because you never know when you wake up to see that you don’t have any parents to sacrifice for you anymore…
That’s all I want to say

  35. Pynadath -- 6 Feb 10 at 3:43 pm

Very very sad, I cried a lot of times and its almost mothers day, He doesn’t deserve that eye.

  43. Osman -- 23 Mar 10 at 5:12 am

Be kind to parents. Whether one or both of them attain old age in your life, say not to them a word of contempt, nor repel them, but address them in terms of honor. And, out of kindness, lower to them the wing of humility, and pray: “My Lord! bestow on them thy Mercy even as they cherished me in childhood.”
[The Glorious Quran; Chapter #17; Verses 23-24]

SHAME ON YOU! HOW DARE YOU TREAT YOUR MOM LIKE THIS! IT WASN’T HER FAULT FOR ONLY HAVING ONE EYE! NOW LOOKS WHO’S SUFFERING NOW! YOU WILL LIVE IN MISERY FOR THE REST OF YOUR LIFE!
AT LEAST YOUR MOTHER DIDN’T WISH FAULTS ON YOU, WASN’T ACCUSING YOU OF STEALING HER BELONGINGS, SHE DID NOT VERBALLY ABUSE YOU LIKE MY MOM DID TO ME OR SAY WORDS THAT CAN NEVER BE TAKEN BACK! SHE NEVER SAID YOU ARE “EVIL MINDED” OR YOU WILL BE HER WORSE ENEMY! AND I DON’T LOOK FORWARD TO FIGHTING W MY MOM THE REST OF OUR LIVES. I PRAY THAT I WILL FORGIVE INSTEAD OF BEING ENEMIES LIKE YOU WERE WITH YOUR MOM! THINK ABOUT THAT SCUMBAG! YOU WERE LUCKY SHE LOVED YOU UNCONDITIONALLY! PERHAPS THE CURSE WILL COME BACK ON YOU AND YOUR “OWN CHILDREN WILL DO YOU THE SAME WAY 3X YOU DID YOUR MOTHER! EAT SH*T!!

the man should not been ashamed of his own mother!!!!! how ungrateful

  72. Ahmed Usam -- 23 Aug 10 at 6:51 am

Do u guys know that a mother keeps her child on her belly for 9 months and each time she moves she feel pain. And after 9 months she gives birth. And do u know that a man can bear 20 fractures. And a mother while giving birth bears pain that is like 45 fractures. So whatever u sacrifice in ur life for ur mother u will never ever make enogh sacrifices like u mother did. So everyone should love and respect their moms more than anyone else in there life.

  87. dave -- 24 Nov 10 at 11:12 pm

from one perspective this story has good morale values, but from my perspective this story angers me because i lost an eye through cancer so does this mean im a huge embarresment to my family?

  88. Brad -- 25 Nov 10 at 9:48 am

This story shows the power of belief! – The son believed his mother to be shameful, that she was ‘ marked’ and somehow less then perfect..her way of being, embarressed him and because he believed it..he only saw that things that supported his belief!! -
The Mom also, believed that if she shared her sacrifice with him, too early..somehow it would take away from her duty & love as a mother…that she could not share this information with her son, face to face, even as a child or teen….and so, she allowed this painful reaction to isolate her and keep her from her family.

Belief – it kept them both apart..both lonely…both disconnected. It made the son arrogrant, judgemental and full of anger..something I am sure he is inflicting on his own children, in various ways.
The mom..spent years lonely…and perhaps very sad.

The real gift of this amazing tale is to remind us, of how powerful our beliefs are…and to examine them..to see how are we being either like the son or the mother.
Using our beliefs..to keep us in a place…we really don’t want to be!!

    Love to all..
    Brad

This story just touched my soul… and makes me realise that our parents are always there for us… no matter you are there for them or Not. I love my mom.. alot.. coz she has played 2 major roles of my life.. she is my mother , she is my father… my father passed away when i was 6 years old. but … my mother fulfilled that place too in my life… I love u mom… more then anyone & anything else…

Ohhh what a beatiful story really very worth, the letter for the son moved me very much..

Everyone should love their parents more than anything else in the whole world…………………………………………

  112. lou avril14 -- 19 Mar 11 at 4:20 am

The mother of this story deserve more love, but her son is too hard… and he did not show any love, respect and concern to his mom even in a single minute…

now that is too late to realize that he is the reason why her mom had lost one eye… its to late…

we should love our parents even if there is imperfection… and we should show them our love every day, every hour, every minute, every second of our life…

    love you Mang & Pang

That’s very bad, the first time I was inoduced to this story… it was in 2009 by my english teacher Mr Chauke. I thought it was a joke at first and then I’ve realised that it is a bad story indeed. May she rest in peace and that he deserves whatever came to him after all.

  153. Anna -- 11 Jul 11 at 12:08 am

I love my mom and that boy should feel the guilt and sadness he put his mother through. I would say I love my father but my mom didn’t marry him and I never met him. I would say the same for my stepfather but he cheated on my mom, couldn’t hold down a job and hit my brother. I HATE HIM. I would say the same for my second stepfather but he was a drunk, with gambling problems, he was a pervert, he smacked my friend’s ass and would stare at mine. I HATE HIM. I still love my mother with all my heart and I would do almost anything for her and my 11 year old brother. This was a touching story.

  159. MUNNA -- 20 Jul 11 at 11:07 am

This story shows about present situation of the world.

  160. Jonas Brother Singh -- 22 Jul 11 at 7:38 am

First of all, great story. Valuable lessons taught. There are also some hidden things here too. Why didn’t the mother tell her son this from the start rather than leave a guilt note after she died? Also, was she really a kind loving mom all those years? Yes, he was truly a jerk for hating her because she had only one eye, but you would think a lifelong relationship has more to it than that. Just trying to point out a few holes in the story, although I agree the moral of it is outstanding and parents and children should love and respect each other.

  191. Doctor -- 2 Nov 11 at 1:55 pm

Touching story, good moral, and sorry but there is no such thing as a whole eye transplant. Corneal transplant yes, but not eye, and at any rate adult eye would be too large to transplant to a child……

  192. Sushi -- 4 Nov 11 at 12:28 pm

Really wonderful story… All children please realize the importance of your parents because they are God’s gift to us…..

Really a heart touching story!. Everyone should be proud of their mother.

  195. Dr. Sudhakar, Tripoli -- 17 Nov 11 at 1:10 pm

After reading the story, my eyes overwhelmed with tears. It reveals the brutality of a son who ignored his mother who sacrificed her life including her eyes for the sake of her son. In the universe mother’s love is pure and eternal. That’s why mother has top priority in the society next to father, teacher and god…. Every child should realize mother’s love towards children.
