My mom only had one eye

My mom only had one eye. I hated her… She was such an embarrassment. She cooked for students and teachers to support the family.

There was this one day during elementary school where my mom came to say hello to me. I was so embarrassed.

How could she do this to me? I ignored her, threw her a hateful look and ran out. The next day at school one of my classmates said, “EEEE, your mom only has one eye!”

I wanted to bury myself. I also wanted my mom to just disappear. I confronted her that day and said, “If you’re only gonna make me a laughing stock, why don’t you just die?”

My mom did not respond… I didn’t even stop to think for a second about what I had said, because I was full of anger. I was oblivious to her feelings.

I wanted out of that house, and have nothing to do with her. So I studied real hard, got a chance to go abroad to study.

Then, I got married. I bought a house of my own. I had kids of my own. I was happy with my life, my kids and the comforts. Then one day, my Mother came to visit me. She hadn’t seen me in years and she didn’t even meet her grandchildren.

When she stood by the door, my children laughed at her, and I yelled at her for coming over uninvited. I screamed at her, “How dare you come to my house and scare my children! GET OUT OF HERE! NOW!!!”

And to this, my mother quietly answered, “Oh, I’m so sorry. I may have gotten the wrong address.” – and she disappeared out of sight.

One day, a letter regarding a school reunion came to my house. So I lied to my wife that I was going on a business trip. After the reunion, I went to the old shack just out of curiosity.

My neighbors said that she died. I did not shed a single tear. They handed me a letter that she had wanted me to have.

“My dearest son,

I think of you all the time. I’m sorry that I came to your house and scared your children.

I was so glad when I heard you were coming for the reunion. But I may not be able to even get out of bed to see you. I’m sorry that I was a constant embarrassment to you when you were growing up.

You see……..when you were very little, you got into an accident, and lost your eye. As a mother, I couldn’t stand watching you having to grow up with one eye. So I gave you mine.

I was so proud of my son who was seeing a whole new world for me, in my place, with that eye.

With all my love to you,

Your mother.”

Well that is a really sad story. It boils down to you don’t know what you have got until it is gone. People should learn how to treat their parents better, in the end you will be glad you did.

This story is really touching. I will be more grateful if I got a mum like her but for me… my mum is 1% also not like her… actually she treats me like a maid. Hope God can change my situation like yours.

This is a very touching story. In our Gujrati language there is a sentence: “Choru k choru thai, pan mavtar k mavtar na thai.”
It means: children could forget their duty, but parents could not.

It’s an emotional story and I admit that but I think we must learn how to respect our parents and I think the writer has given his point in a great way. I like the theme of the story and the message it conveys.

  • Dr. Sudhakar, Tripoli November 17, 2011, 1:10 pm

After reading the story, my eyes overwhelmed with tears. It reveals the brutality of a son who ignored his mother who sacrificed her life including her eyes for the sake of her son. In the universe mother’s love is pure and eternal. That’s why mother has top priority in the society next to father, teacher and god…. Every child should realize mother’s love towards children.

  • Teacher-SXHS November 9, 2011, 2:23 am

Touching story, good moral, and sorry but there is no such thing as a whole eye transplant. Corneal transplant yes, but not eye, and at any rate adult eye would be too large to transplant to a child……

  • Shamila October 31, 2011, 2:39 pm

I feel sorry for your mum and I hope you forgive your mum and I believe you were in tears to sum up you have the luckiest mum cause non mum will give their child the eye away!

You have no respect for her. She shouldn’t be treated like this.

  • Jonas Brother Singh July 22, 2011, 7:38 am

First of all, great story. Valuable lessons taught. There are also some hidden things here too. Why didn’t the mother tell her son this from the start rather than leave a guilt note after she died? Also, was she really a kind loving mom all those years? Yes, he was truly a jerk for hating her because she had only one eye, but you would think a lifelong relationship has more to it than that. Just trying to point out a few holes in the story, although I agree the moral of it is outstanding and parents and children should love and respect each other.

  • MUNNA July 20, 2011, 11:07 am

  • Nishant singh July 11, 2011, 11:36 am

    Stand for your family

  • Anna July 11, 2011, 12:08 am

I love my mom and that boy should feel the guilt and sadness he put his mother through. I would say I love my father but my mom didn’t marry him and I never met him. I would say the same for my stepfather but he cheated on my mom, couldn’t hold down a job and hit my brother. I HATE HIM. I would say the same for my second stepfather but he was a drunk, with gambling problems, he was a pervert, he smacked my friend’s ass and would stare at mine. I HATE HIM. I still love my mother with all my heart and I would do almost anything for her and my 11 year old brother. This was a touching story.

  • Diya July 9, 2011, 5:14 am
