My mom only had one eye

My mom only had one eye. I hated her… She was such an embarrassment. She cooked for students and teachers to support the family.

There was this one day during elementary school where my mom came to say hello to me. I was so embarrassed.

How could she do this to me? I ignored her, threw her a hateful look and ran out. The next day at school one of my classmates said, “EEEE, your mom only has one eye!”

I wanted to bury myself. I also wanted my mom to just disappear. I confronted her that day and said, “If you’re only gonna make me a laughing stock, why don’t you just die?”

My mom did not respond… I didn’t even stop to think for a second about what I had said, because I was full of anger. I was oblivious to her feelings.

I wanted out of that house, and have nothing to do with her. So I studied real hard, got a chance to go abroad to study.

Then, I got married. I bought a house of my own. I had kids of my own. I was happy with my life, my kids and the comforts. Then one day, my Mother came to visit me. She hadn’t seen me in years and she didn’t even meet her grandchildren.

When she stood by the door, my children laughed at her, and I yelled at her for coming over uninvited. I screamed at her, “How dare you come to my house and scare my children! GET OUT OF HERE! NOW!!!”

And to this, my mother quietly answered, “Oh, I’m so sorry. I may have gotten the wrong address.” – and she disappeared out of sight.

One day, a letter regarding a school reunion came to my house. So I lied to my wife that I was going on a business trip. After the reunion, I went to the old shack just out of curiosity.

My neighbors said that she died. I did not shed a single tear. They handed me a letter that she had wanted me to have.

“My dearest son,

I think of you all the time. I’m sorry that I came to your house and scared your children.

I was so glad when I heard you were coming for the reunion. But I may not be able to even get out of bed to see you. I’m sorry that I was a constant embarrassment to you when you were growing up.

You see……..when you were very little, you got into an accident, and lost your eye. As a mother, I couldn’t stand watching you having to grow up with one eye. So I gave you mine.

I was so proud of my son who was seeing a whole new world for me, in my place, with that eye.

With all my love to you,

Your mother.”

Wonderful heart touching story. Children really don’t understand the feelings and pain of parents until they themselves face the situation. They must learn a lesson from this story. Parents are a valuable gift of God in our lives. Help them, support them, understand them. Show them your love towards them….

  • KT Lata September 28, 2014, 3:53 am

My mum embarrass me and yet I have not nor ever will disown her or disrespect her like that guy in the story. Every time I get mad at my mum for embarrassing me, I always remember that she was the one that carried my in her womb for 9 months, had the most excruciating pain as she born me and, loved and cared for me with all my imperfectness. Remember everyone, your mother was your first love when you were born, your friend you went to when life was pulling you down and, the one who will give up her life to save yours. Your mum (and pa) are the most important peoples in your life and their is no one else like them in the world. Love them with all your heart, you never know when they will be gone for good.

  • Alyssa September 19, 2014, 10:16 pm

I just loved the story. It brought tears to my eyes. I read it to my daughter. I hope she will value me as I value my mother. Thanks

  • Ethan June 30, 2014, 11:02 pm

She have so much love to her child. Anyone who is lucky enough to have a mother that is as kind and as loving as she was. I was lucky enough to have a mother who was as kind– no, kinder. I think this is a lesson to all that you should love your parents while they are around, because no day is for certain. I would give my eye to talk to my mother once a again, one last conversation. It is said that he did not value her or her life, and he will have to live with that regret. Because he didn’t deserve that kind of love.

  • Tridha pandit June 27, 2014, 12:22 pm

  • Rashad June 16, 2014, 10:28 pm

I really hope this story isn’t true. No person should ever treat their parent like that whether they’re missing a body part or have more than usual. You should love your mother and father no matter what. This story is very saddening

  • Neela hari June 14, 2014, 12:35 pm

It is not a story it, is a true incident which happens in every second house nowadays. On the whole the story is very touching.

  • Syed June 10, 2014, 10:06 am

Hi, This story has increased the love to my parents, especailly to my Mother, who had spent the entire life in looking after me. the mom in this story could have shared the letter little bit earlier so that the son could have understood the mother’s scarifies..

  • Andre Skeete May 28, 2014, 9:08 pm

    Is this a poem

  • Gail May 23, 2014, 8:43 am

Not likely a true story. I have seen this a few times and wondered if it was even possible. Would a doctor take an eye of a living person and put it in another? According to Snopes.com it is false. “With all modern medical technology, transplantation of the eyeball is still impossible. The optic nerve isn’t an ordinary nerve, but instead an inset running from the brain. Modern medicine isn’t able to “connect” an eyeball back to brain after an optic nerve has been severed, let alone tranplant the eye from a different person. (The only exception is the cornea, the transparent part in front of the eye: corneas are tranplanted to replace injured and opaque ones.)

We won’t try to comment on whether any surgeon would accept an eye from a living donor for transplant into another — we’ll leave that to others who are far more knowledgeable about medical ethics and transplant procedures.”
But I do like the message that moms will do anything for their children! Also on snopes.com “The one-eyed mother story expounds upon two moral messages: the unconditional, all-encompassing love we expect mothers to always feel for their children, and the admonition to not put off cherishing loved ones and appreciating their sacrifices while they’re still around.”

  • Mitchb May 23, 2014, 12:12 am

This is such a touching story, my mom actually read this to me on facebook and I cried which, surprises me,me being a man but this is a sad sad story no good mother should ever go through this all the children that do this probably won’t fly away in the morning if you catch my drift.

This is sad story and made me cried when I read.

  • George April 21, 2014, 5:52 pm

this story made me really angry. What an ungrateful monster. No parent should deserve that treatment from their child.

I really hope this isn’t a real story, because it’s a shame that a person like this could live their life knowing that they treated the person who gave them life with such distain.

  • Abiel April 7, 2014, 9:01 am

The story is good but so sad.

  • Hafna nahan April 7, 2014, 7:17 am

  • Jobin April 2, 2014, 4:36 am

Terrible story, and I don’t mean it’s a tragedy. This story was riddled with rubbish from the beginning. You people should try watching Lion king if you want a basis which you can build your moral foundations upon. WASTEMEN.
