In the days when an ice cream sundae cost much less, a 10 year-old boy entered a hotel coffee shop and sat at a table. A waitress put a glass of water in front of him. “How much is an ice cream sundae?” he asked. “50¢,” replied the waitress.
The little boy pulled his hand out of his pocket and studied the coins in it.
“Well, how much is a plain dish of ice cream?” he inquired. By now more people were waiting for a table and the waitress was growing impatient. “35¢!” she brusquely replied.
The little boy again counted his coins. “I’ll have the plain ice cream,” he said. The waitress brought the ice cream, put the bill on the table and walked away. The boy finished the ice cream, paid the cashier and left.
When the waitress came back, she began to cry as she wiped down the table. There, placed neatly beside the empty dish, were two nickels and five pennies. You see, he couldn’t have the sundae, because he had to have enough left to leave her a tip.

Very nice touching too.
It’s really heart touching. Thanks to the writer.
Story was good… but til today I haven’t understand that why do we leave a tip? and would it be wrong on our part if we do not do so?
Nice:)
Its a very good lesson to the people who treat other people down, there is so much to learn from this. Nice to read and to take this thought in our life.
Well I don’t understand the need of paying the tip to a waiter/waitress when they are already being payed by the restaurants. Other than that we are already paying the service tax, so I guess that on its own covers the charges. I think there is no need to pay those who serve for they are not doing any social work. They are being payed by their workplaces.
Give something others which u had.
Really heart touching.
Nice story and every person should read this story.
Story shows royality of a small boy.
Good one… story tells the kind and humanity nature of the boy…
though waitress/waiters are being paid by the restaurant, the kindness of the boy just shows that it’s not bad to share to others of what we have. i love the story
Boy did the right thing. Why everybody feels that “if the server is getting salary, why should they give”. But remember, they were not getting thousands a month…They do not even get 1/10th of our salary… Just think. I prefer to give the tip to those who clean the table than who serve us…..
one day the boy will be a great personality.
I cried as soon as I read that the boy left her a tip. He thought out the whole thing. He didn’t have the sundae which is probably what he really wanted, but he got the regular ice cream just so he could tip the waitress. ♥
She was crying because she had to pay the bill he only left 15¢ for her, I’d say he was wise!
Too cute, loved it (:
Don’t be bad to others specially when they are not doing anything wrong to us, we might not know it that someday, that person will be the one to help us when we are in need.
Think for others also
Service to man is to service to God ………. nice story .. and thank you for helping me in my story reading competition thanx a lotttttt.
We leave a tip because they do get paid but not very much. Did you know that waiter/waitresses get paid well under minimum wage. Something like $2.35 an hour. Tips is what they live on!
This story isn’t about how much he gave, at all. This is about the fact that he gave something!
There’s a bible story where the rich people gave all their extra stuff, and a widow gave the only 2 coins she had. And in the end, she really gave more then all of them..
That’s like what this boy did.
That lil boy is very rich from his thoughts. I m very much impressed from him. Good story…
I like it, the little boy was indeeed nice.
Nice these stories helped me a lot to motivate my school children
It shows a nice moral lesson to all of us… I like the boy because of his lovable heart…
Good one
Awesome
Good story. It teaches who you can be a better person in every situation, also with a little boy.
The little boy had a heart of gold. I believe that this story teaches us that we must not have enough before we give.
Thank you very much for your wonderful stories. You are changing my life.
That little boy was taught right….
